BHE developed an internet map-based approach to land use planning and obtaining permits for a proposed 5000-acre, 140+ turbine wind power facility in central Ohio. The approach was used to meet several key objectives of the project, most importantly minimizing cost and expediting time-to-startup. The environmental features that were documented (through data layering), geo-referenced and served out on the web for project team collaboration were terrain, soil types, streams, roads, buildings, historic structures, floodplains, known and suspected threatened and endangered plants and animals, and other data critical to planning the project.
